A D Bell
1884 - 1966
A.D.Bell was a pseudonym used by the listed British artist Wilfred Knox.
Knox used the A.D Bell alias extensively when producing paintings for an art dealer in Birmingham where he was born.
Using the pseudonym A.D.Bell Knox specialised in paintings of Clipper sailing ships and other nautical scenes working primarily in watercolours and gouache.
Wilfred Knox was also an engineer by trade and served in the Royal Flying Corps during the first World War.
He painted World War I fighter planes as well as Venetian scenes.
A second listed artist, Horace Hammond, also used the name A.D.Bell as an alias but Hammond did not paint clippers in the style of Knox.
