Edward Horace Thompson
1879 - 1949
Edward Horace Thompson was a prolific Cumbrian artist
who painted mainly in watercolours. He was born
in Workington where he worked for 25 years as a
clerk in the local steelworks. He later moved to
a village near Cockermouth and later still he lived
in the vicinity of Lake Bassenthwaite, Cumbria where
he was a frequent visitor to the Pheasant Inn on
the shores of the lake.
Living in the English Lake District he was inspired
by his surroundings and his preferred subjects included
lakeland scenes, mountains and moorland. Many of
his lakeland scenes were reproduced as postcards.
